Frequently Asked Questions
What is ADHD coaching?
ADHD coaching is a collaborative process that helps adults with ADHD develop practical strategies to manage work, life and responsibilities more effectively.
Many adults with ADHD describe feeling capable but overwhelmed, inconsistent or stuck. ADHD coaching provides structured thinking space to understand how your brain works and to develop systems that support focus, planning, prioritisation and energy management.
As an ADHD coach working with adults across the UK, I help clients identify strategies that suit their real lives rather than trying to force themselves into systems that do not work for neurodivergent brains.
What is AuDHD coaching?
AuDHD coaching supports people who experience both ADHD and autism.
When ADHD and autism overlap, the challenges people experience can be quite different from ADHD alone. For example, clients may be balancing executive functioning difficulties alongside sensory needs, structure preferences or social exhaustion.
Coaching helps clients understand how these patterns interact and develop strategies that respect both ADHD and autistic ways of thinking and processing the world.
What is neurodiversity coaching?
Neurodiversity coaching supports adults whose brains process information differently from the neurotypical majority.
This may include ADHD, autism, AuDHD or other executive functioning differences.
The aim is not to “fix” neurodivergence. Instead, coaching focuses on understanding how your brain works and developing practical approaches that support you in work and everyday life.
Do I need an ADHD diagnosis to work with an ADHD coach?
No. Many people start ADHD coaching before receiving a formal diagnosis.
Some clients are waiting for an NHS assessment. Others recognise ADHD traits in themselves and want practical support in the meantime.
Coaching focuses on the challenges you are experiencing and the strategies that may help, rather than on whether a diagnosis has been formally confirmed.
What happens in an ADHD coaching session?
ADHD coaching sessions are structured but conversational.
Each session usually begins by identifying what is most important or difficult for you that week. We might then explore:
• task initiation and procrastination
• managing workload and deadlines
• prioritising competing demands
• planning and organisation
• energy regulation and burnout
• workplace communication and boundaries
The goal is that you leave each session with clearer thinking and a practical strategy to test between sessions.
What do adults usually work on in ADHD coaching?
Adults often seek ADHD coaching because everyday life feels harder than it should.
Common areas we work on include:
• managing work demands and deadlines
• overcoming procrastination
• planning and prioritisation
• managing overwhelm and burnout
• navigating ADHD in the workplace
• balancing work, family and responsibilities
Many clients find that simply having structured space to think through challenges with someone who understands ADHD can make a significant difference.
Is ADHD coaching the same as therapy?
No.
Therapy usually focuses on mental health and emotional healing, often looking at past experiences. ADHD coaching focuses on present challenges and practical change.
However, emotions, stress and life circumstances are always part of the conversation. Coaching works best when we understand the full context of your life.
If therapy would be more appropriate support, I will always say so.
Can ADHD coaching be funded by Access to Work?
Yes. In many cases ADHD coaching can be funded through the UK government’s Access to Work scheme.
Access to Work sometimes funds coaching or workplace strategy support for employees with ADHD, autism or other neurodivergent conditions.
Coaching funded this way usually focuses on workplace strategies, organisation, workload management and identifying helpful adjustments.
How often do ADHD coaching sessions happen?
Many people begin ADHD coaching with sessions every two weeks.
This allows time to test strategies between sessions while maintaining momentum.
Some clients prefer weekly sessions at the beginning, while others move to monthly check-ins once things feel more settled.
How do I start ADHD coaching?
The best place to start is with a short introductory call.
This gives us an opportunity to talk about what you are struggling with, what you hope coaching might help with, and whether working together feels like a good fit.
